Julius Abure’s Labour Party has announced the party’s 2027 Presidential Candidate.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, will be its candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

Obi previously contested in 2023 but lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), finishing third behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, stated that Tinubu would face a tougher challenge in the next election.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to bringing Obi back into the race.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027, we are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” he said.

Arabambi also addressed the resignation of Kenneth Okonkwo from the LP, calling it a positive development.

He claimed that Okonkwo had not been fully committed to the party and accused him of supporting the ruling APC.

“And we wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, his resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” Arabambi stated.

He dismissed concerns about internal crises, insisting that the LP remains strong and ready for the next election.

To the LP spokesman, “There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. Labour Party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors.”
