ICPC has raided Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s residence amid detention.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday conducted a search of the residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The development was disclosed by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, who confirmed that operatives of the anti-graft agency carried out the search.

“El-Rufai’s residence was today searched by the ICPC,” the statement noted.

Lawyer Condemns Action

El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the action as unlawful and a violation of due process and fundamental rights.

He criticised the manner of the search, insisting that it did not follow established legal procedures.

ICPC Confirms Custody

The ICPC later confirmed that the former governor is currently in its custody.

The development comes shortly after El-Rufai was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) following his release on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

According to reports, the DSS took him into custody over allegations that he unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Further details are expected as the situation develops.
