IBB Has Not Endorsed Peter Obi Yet – Spokesman

The spokesman for former Military President, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has said his boss has not officially endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Newsonline reports that Afegbua said the former head of state, General Babangida has no Twitter account and no one is operated on his behalf by his media aides.

A Twitter account, @General_Ibbro tweeted on Tuesday that Babangida respects Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi ahead of the two other major presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Twitter account’s message on Tuesday read, “Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo will forever be a true elder statesman and a boss in the military. No serving General in the Nigerian Army today joined the military earlier than 1982. By then, Obasanjo had already finished his military career. I respect him a lot, with his endorsement.”

Prince Kassim Afegbua, however, in reply to the Twitter account message credited to IBB advised the general public to ignore the report of endorsement. He said IBB does not have a Twitter handle.

“It is not true, please. Ignore the report of the endorsement. IBB doesn’t have a Twitter handle.

“If he is going to speak, it will be through a signed statement, not Twitter. Those behind the Twitter statement are liars.” IBB spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the APC presidential campaign council for Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima ticket, Festus Keyamo has said the endorsement of Peter Obi by the leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum, Chief Edwin Clark will not affect the chances of Bola Tinubu.

Keyamo said, like Obasanjo’s endorsement, the endorsement of Obi by Chief Edwin Clark, cannot give the former governor of Anambra State victory.

Keyamo added that he would bet with anything most precious to him that Peter Obi will not be the victorious president after February 25, 2023 election in less than 60 days.

“Same thing I said for OBJ that applies to my respected father, Edwin Clark. These are elders who endorsed Atiku Abubakar in 2019. The votes they gave Atiku in 2019, they have carried those votes to Obi. My father, Edwin Clark HAS NEVER SUPPORTED APC for the Presidency since 2015,” Keyamo wrote.

Chief Clark on Tuesday, in a press conference, said the country does not need a president who cannot stand straight unless he is helped. He added that a president who would be swearing every year to prove his age is not mentally and physically fit to lead Nigeria at moment.
