‘I Have Ordered Officers To Shoot On Sight’ – Gov Matawalle

Gov Matawalle has ordered police officers in the state to shoot anyone with AK-47 rifle.

NewsOnline reports that the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has directed all security chiefs in the state to shoot anybody caught with AK-47 rifle or any dangerous weapon during the campaign and election periods.

Matawalle swore that thugs allegedly affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) found with AK-47 rifles and other lethal weapons during the party’s most recent rally must be prosecuted.

The Governor stated this while speaking to newsmen in his residence in Maradun Town, Maradun Local Government Area of the State on Friday.

He explained that he has directed all security chiefs in the State to properly abide by the presidential order to shoot anybody caught with an AK-47 rifle or any dangerous weapon during campaigns and the election period.

According to the Governor, only security operatives are allowed to carry AK-47 rifles or any other sophisticated weapon by law.

“I wonder what civilians could be doing with AK-47 rifles or other dangerous weapons if they are not terrorists”, he added.

He announced that the suspects would be arraigned before a court of law as soon as the investigation into the matter is concluded.

Shedding more light on the State’s Anti-Thuggery Committee, Matawalle debunked the claim by the PDP that the committee was established to intimidate opposition parties in the State.

“After all, there are some APC supporters who were equally arrested for criminal offences and will also be prosecuted according to the law of the land irrespective of the fact that they are supporting the ruling party,” he said.
