The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi has banned political rallies in all secondary and primary schools in the state, citing open defecation by party supporters.

Newsonline reports that the governor also banned Motorcycle operatives, popularly called Okada in the state from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am. This he said was because of the activities of unknown gunmen.

Governor Umahi gave the directive on Monday while addressing stakeholders and non-governmental organizations during the 2023 budget estimate and citizen’s imputs that took place at the ecumenical center, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.

Umahi said the ban on political parties rallies across all government schools in the 13 local governments of the state will help to reduce open defecation in the state.

The governor of Ebonyi State also cleared the call for ban on the state security outfit Ebubeagu, stating that the security outfit has come to stay.

Umahi added that all political parties must write to the state Commissioner of Education to get a permit before hosting any political events in the state public schools.

Governor Umahi’s statement read in part, “we ban the use of motorcycles in any part of the state from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am. It is for the betterment of your lives. All the unknown gunmen are using motorcycles.

“We have to do everything possible to secure your lives. My good friend was killed yesterday night by unknown gunmen who used motorcycles and spread bullets on him. Many people have lost their lives in this process. We need to sacrifice.”
