A driver attached to one of the vehicles in the convoy of Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde died in a crash on Tuesday.
Newsonline reports that three other occupants of the car were injured when Governor Makinde was returning to Ibadan, the state capital from Saki where he had gone to attend a town hall meeting with members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of his reelection bid.
The driver could have survived the crash if he used his seat belt, a source at the incident told The Nation.
Another source who was part of the convoy and spoke on condition of anonymity said Mustapha smashed his head in the unfortunate accident.
It was gathered that the vehicle which the driver was driving identified as “Zebra 4” somersaulted throwing off some bags of rice bought by some individuals on the trip.
The remains of the driver have been buried at his Amuloko, Ibadan residence on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.
At the time of filing this report, the state government is yet to release a statement on the incident.
