NewsOnline Nigeria reports that several Nigerian governors have exceeded the federal government’s minimum wage benchmark of ₦70,000, offering civil servants higher pay to address economic challenges and living costs.

The states are:

1) Lagos (₦85,000): Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu introduced a ₦85,000 wage, aiming for ₦100,000 by January 2025.

2) Rivers (₦85,000): Governor Siminalayi Fubara matched Lagos with ₦85,000 for state workers.

3) Enugu (₦80,000): Governor Peter Mbah approved ₦80,000 for immediate implementation.

4) Akwa Ibom (₦80,000): Governor Umo Eno announced ₦80,000 and set up an implementation committee.

5) Bayelsa (₦80,000): Governor Douye Diri included pensions and gratuities in the package.

6) Niger (₦80,000): Governor Mohammed Bago committed to sustaining ₦80,000 from November 2024.

7) Delta (₦77,500): Delta workers are set to receive ₦77,500 following the state’s announcement.

8) Ogun (₦77,000): Governor Dapo Abiodun approved a new wage of ₦77,000 in October.

9) Ebonyi (₦75,000): Governor Francis Nwifuru implemented ₦75,000 after reviewing economic conditions.

10) Kebbi (₦75,000): Governor Nasir Idris approved ₦75,000 for state workers in October.

11) Ondo (₦73,000): Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa introduced ₦73,000 during his campaign.

12) Kogi (₦72,500): Governor Ahmed Ododo set the wage at ₦72,500 and suspended taxes on the amount for a year.

13) Kaduna (₦72,000): Governor Uba Sani established ₦72,000 as the minimum wage from November 2024.

14) Gombe (₦71,500): Governor Muhammad Yahaya signed an agreement for ₦71,500 with labor unions.

15) Kano (₦71,000): Governor Abba Yusuf introduced ₦71,000 as the new minimum wage in November.

16) Oyo (₦80,000): Governor Seyi Makinde approved ₦80,000 after committee recommendations.

17) Osun (₦75,000): Governor Ademola Adeleke introduced ₦75,000 following negotiations with public service unions.

18) Nasarawa (₦70,500): Governor Abdullahi Sule confirmed ongoing payment of ₦70,500 while addressing labour concerns about adjustments.

19) Benue (₦75,000): Governor Hyacinth Alia approved ₦75,000 for workers and pledged to clear outstanding salary arrears.
