NewsOnline Nigeria reports that FirstBank has announced its sponsorship of the Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025, introducing a major innovation aimed at enhancing the event experience, the first-ever private premium seating area at the iconic cultural celebration.
The bank revealed that it has constructed a 500-seater premium bleacher, offering enhanced comfort, safety, and a superior viewing experience for carnival attendees. The initiative marks a significant upgrade in audience engagement at one of Africa’s largest street carnivals.
Speaking on the development, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, said the sponsorship aligns with the bank’s First@Arts initiative, which supports Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries.
“We recognise the transformative power of the arts in inspiring people and fostering national unity. For over 131 years, FirstBank has supported platforms that promote self-expression, cultural exchange, and social reflection. Our investment in Carnival Calabar underscores our commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage,” Ijabiyi said.
He added that the introduction of the exclusive 500-seater bleacher was designed to elevate the carnival experience and provide guests with exceptional comfort and an unforgettable spectacle.
Also speaking, Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Calabar Commission, described FirstBank’s involvement as a strong example of private-sector support for culture and tourism.
“This partnership enhances the quality of the carnival and strengthens its global appeal,” Onah said.
The Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025 is officially marketed by Okhma Global Limited, which handles brand partnerships, promotions, and ticket sales. The firm has worked with the Cross River State Government for over a decade, contributing significantly to the carnival’s commercial growth and international visibility.
