The Federal Government has renamed the NIMET institute after President Muhammadu Buhari.
NewsOnline reports that the Federal Government has renamed the Meteorological Institute Of Science and Technology (MIST), Katsina after the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
The Institution which will now be addressed as ‘Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology’ was commissioned on Thursday by President Buhari who is on a two-day visit to the state.
Speaking with newsmen after the commissioning of the institute, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NIMET Director General, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu said the institute is the first of its kind in Nigeria and West-Africa.
“The institution is currently pursuing accreditation for Higher National Diploma in Meteorology, Electro-Meteorological Technology and Climate Change Science in other to provide advanced training for graduates of the institute.

Prof. Matazu, who is also Nigeria’s Permanent Representative with World Meteorological Organisation, WMO, said the institution also offers support services and training to Meteorological personnel from other African countries like Gambia and Niger Republic.
On the capacity of the institution to deliver on set objectives, the Director General added that “NIMET has been running training activities with facilitators from within the agency as well as lecturers, researchers and Professors from different higher institutions since 1957.
NIMET Institute offers National Diploma courses in Meteorology, Climate Change Science and other technical and electrical related areas with NBTE accreditation.
