Femi Fani-Kayode has been acquainted in 4 major cases, ending his 18-year-long legal battle with EFCC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has faced multiple criminal charges and trials spanning over 18 years, involving four major cases and appeals initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Despite the lengthy legal battles, he emerged victorious in each case, with the most recent acquittal occurring on February 4, 2025.

In 2008, Fani-Kayode was accused of misappropriating 19.5 billion naira from the Aviation Intervention Fund and engaging in money laundering during his tenure as Minister of Aviation.

His trial, which lasted from July 1, 2008, to July 1, 2015, was overseen by a series of judges at the Federal High Court in Lagos, including Hon. Justice Ahmad, Hon. Justice Binta Nyarku, and Hon. Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia. After seven years, on July 1, 2016, he was acquitted of all charges by Hon. Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia.

In a separate case in 2016, Fani-Kayode was accused of embezzling 8 billion naira in public funds, used to finance President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 presidential campaign.

His prosecution by the EFCC continued from 2016 to 2023, with the case being heard by Hon. Justice M.S. Hassan, Hon. Justice Aikawa, and Hon. Justice Oziagor at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

After seven years, all charges against him were dismissed on April 21, 2023, by the Court of Appeal in Lagos.

In another matter in 2016, Fani-Kayode faced accusations of illegally accepting 26 million naira from the office of the National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

The case, which lasted from 2016 to 2025, was heard by Hon. Justice Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

On January 15, 2025, Fani-Kayode was acquitted on all charges.

The final case stemmed from accusations in 2021 that he forged medical certificates to gain adjournments in court proceedings.

This case, prosecuted by the EFCC from 2021 to 2025 at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, was overseen by Hon. Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe.

On February 4, 2025, he was acquitted once again, concluding a series of legal victories
