EFCC has arrested Former Governor Aminu Tambuwal over alleged ₦189 billion fraud.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Sokoto State Governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, over allegations of illicit cash withdrawals amounting to ₦189 billion.

Sources confirmed that Tambuwal is currently in EFCC custody in Abuja, where he is being interrogated in connection with the massive financial scandal. The alleged transactions reportedly occurred during his tenure as governor of Sokoto State.

This development comes amid mounting criticism of the EFCC’s investigation approach. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) had earlier accused the anti-graft agency of engaging in selective prosecution, targeting mostly opposition politicians.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that some of the ongoing probes are politically motivated, involving the reopening of old case files without presenting new evidence.

The EFCC has yet to release an official statement regarding Tambuwal’s arrest, but the case has sparked political debate over anti-corruption enforcement and its perceived bias.
