
Rochas Okorocha
Newsonline reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Senator Rochas Okorocha, the former Governor of Imo State in a federal high court in Abuja.
He was arraigned on Monday before Justice Inyang Ekwo on a 17-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal N2.9 billion in public funds during his tenure as Imo State Governor.
Mr Okorocha is being charged in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Recall the EFCC had invaded his Abuja residence and arrested him following his refusal to honour their invitation.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges proffered against him.
Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter till tomorrow for commencement of trial.
Justice Ekwo on March 28 threatened to strike out the suit if EFCC fails to bring Okorocha before the court.
Mr Okorocha is a serving Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly.
Newsonline Nigeria reported that the court refused to admit Mr Okorocha to bail on May 27. The judge held that making an order for his bail will be unnecessary since the matter would be coming up today.
