Carney has cautioned Trump in White House showdown.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned Donald Trump that his country is not for sale.

The two leaders met during a tense encounter at the White House on Tuesday.

Despite the underlying friction, the tone between Trump and Carney remained cordial, even amid pointed disagreements over Trump’s continued push to make Canada the 51st U.S. state.

Trump reiterated his belief in the idea but added, “But it takes two to tango, right?

“We’re not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it.”

According to the U.S. President, it would be a “wonderful marriage,” but Carney responded, “There are some places that are never for sale,” citing the White House and Buckingham Palace.

In a rhetorical concession, Trump acknowledged that Canada “is stepping up the military participation.”

However, he refused to declare the idea dead. “I say ‘never say never,’” Trump remarked.
