Veteran Yoruba Actor Baba Gebu is dead.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Veteran Nollywood actor, Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu, has passed away.

The sad news was confirmed on Wednesday by fellow actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod, who announced Baba Gebu’s death via a post on his verified Instagram page. According to Afod, the veteran thespian died on Tuesday after a brief illness.

In an emotional tribute, Afod described Baba Gebu as “a great legend” whose immense contributions to the Nigerian movie industry, particularly Yoruba-language cinema, will never be forgotten.

“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace,” Afod wrote.

Baba Gebu enjoyed a distinguished career spanning decades, appearing in numerous Yoruba film productions and mentoring several younger actors who have since become household names in the industry.

In a 2024 interview, the veteran actor spoke about the painful loss of his wife, revealing that returning to acting helped him overcome grief and stay mentally strong. During that period, colleagues like Kunle Afod rallied around him, offering both emotional and professional support.

Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to mourn the late actor, celebrating his life, humility, and immense impact on Nigeria’s entertainment landscape.
