Tonye Cole
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Tonye Cole, has withdrawn from the party’s governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Cole announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the decision was made in the interest of peace, reconciliation, and the supremacy of the party after extensive consultations with stakeholders.
The former governorship aspirant described himself as a committed democrat who strongly believes in institutional integrity and party unity, pledging full support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate.
According to him, the move became necessary to protect the stability and collective progress of the party in Rivers State.
“I have taken the decision, in the overriding interest of party unity, peace, and collective progress, to respect the supremacy of the party and withdraw from the forthcoming primaries,” Cole stated.
“This decision was not made lightly. It is the product of deep reflection, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to the stability, growth, and success of our great party and our beloved state,” he added.
Cole also expressed appreciation to his supporters, including party faithful, youths, women groups, elders, and other Rivers residents who stood by him throughout the political process.
He urged his supporters to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with the party leadership as preparations continue for the 2027 elections.
The APC chieftain further called on members to remain united and work together to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu, the APC, and all party candidates in the next general elections.
