NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security breaches in Kebbi and Kwara States.
The President was expected to depart Abuja on Wednesday for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa and later proceed to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit, but opted to remain in the country to receive urgent security briefings on the crises.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the development on Wednesday, noting that Tinubu was deeply concerned by the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Monday’s armed attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Following a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities. He also directed the police to immediately pursue the bandits responsible for the attack.
The President is now awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as intelligence updates from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the Kwara incident.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his instruction to security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
