President Tinubu
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh appointments for the governing councils of three federal universities: University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The decision follows a leadership shake-up at the University of Abuja earlier in the year.
Recall that in February, the president had dissolved the institution’s governing council and removed Vice-Chancellor Aisha Maikudi after concerns were raised about her qualifications for the role.
Since then, the council seat had remained vacant until now.
New members for the University of Abuja council include Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan from the South-South, Dr. Adedeji Adefuye from the South-West, Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir from the North-West, and Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku from the North-East.
At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the new council members are former Enugu Assembly Speaker Ogbonna Eugene Odo and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir, a retired senior government official.
Their appointment fills the council gaps that had been open for some time.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also got new council members.
They are former Anambra deputy governor Dr. Nkem Okeke, Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala, Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa, and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade.
These appointments bring in a mix of experience from the public and academic sectors.
