Rotimi also refuted insinuations of a looming “showdown” at plenary, insisting that the House remains united under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s leadership, despite members freely expressing concerns in both formal and informal settings.

Speaker Abbas has ordered probe into the alleged unfair recruitment in House of Reps.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of “unfair” recruitment within the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

The directive was announced on Sunday in a statement by Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., Spokesman of the House, who clarified that recruitment into the National Assembly bureaucracy is handled solely by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), an independent body, and not by House leadership.

Rotimi stressed that the recruitment process is designed to follow merit, inclusiveness, and the Federal Character principle, rejecting claims that it was unfairly tilted towards any region.

“In line with its oversight mandate, the Speaker has directed the House Committee on Public Service Matters to conduct a thorough investigation of the recruitment exercise and report back to the House,” Rotimi stated.

He dismissed media reports alleging bias as “false, divisive, and misleading,” adding that the House remains guided by equity, justice, and fairness.

Rotimi also refuted insinuations of a looming “showdown” at plenary, insisting that the House remains united under Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s leadership, despite members freely expressing concerns in both formal and informal settings.

The spokesman further noted that some reports had misrepresented internal conversations among members while ignoring the House’s focus on critical issues such as project implementation, equitable employment, and national security.

On constituency project funding, Rotimi explained that delayed contractor payments are a nationwide challenge, not peculiar to lawmakers’ projects. He assured that ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Finance would ensure settlement of outstanding 2024 obligations.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to resume plenary on September 23, 2025.
