SDP has suspended its National Chairman Shehu Gabam over alleged financial misconduct.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that amid escalating internal tensions, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, along with two other senior officials, over serious allegations of financial impropriety.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, confirming that the suspension takes immediate effect.

Also suspended are Nze Nnadi Clarkson, the party’s National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, National Youth Leader.

According to the NWC, the decision was made in line with the provisions of Articles 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the SDP Constitution (2022 as amended), following the outcome of a crucial meeting in which what the committee described as “overwhelming evidence” was presented.

“The National Working Committee has approved the immediate suspension of Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with Nze Nnadi Clarkson and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds,” the statement read.

It further alleged that the suspended officials were implicated in unauthorized financial dealings, including the diversion of funds from the party’s accounts and personal enrichment schemes carried out without the approval of the NWC.

The development follows an earlier report by DAILY POST that tensions boiled over on Tuesday, when protesters forcefully brought down the gate of the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja — a sign of mounting unrest within the party ranks.

As the crisis deepens, the SDP is facing increasing pressure to restore internal accountability and regain public trust.
