Rivers State Assembly has declared a shutdown of expenditure in the state.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has declared a total shutdown of expenditure in the state.
This Nigeria news platform understands that the latest development follows the expiration of the 7-day ultimatum it gave Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2024 Budget before the House.

The demand for budget resubmission aligns with a presidential peace pact from December aimed at quelling the state’s ongoing political crisis.
Despite this, Governor Fubara, who had previously submitted the ₦800 billion budget to an Edison Ehie-led Assembly, announced plans for the 2025 budget, signalling a potential dismissal of the assembly’s demands.
According to TVC News, the Martin Amaewhule-led assembly, during its sitting on Monday, resolved that Fubara is no longer allowed to approve or authorize expenditure from the consolidated revenue fund of the state, neither are Ministries permitted to spend Public funds until the 2024 budget is presented.
