House of Reps has summoned Naira Marley to explain Mohbad’s Music Royalties.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that the House of Representatives has summoned popular singer Azeez Fashola, professionally known as Naira Marley, to address concerns regarding the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously called Mohbad, and to ensure that his artistic rights are duly protected.

This initiative was orchestrated by the House through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance. In addition to summoning Naira Marley, the committee has extended an invitation to Jiggy Adeoye, Mohbad’s manager, to engage in an interactive session.

The primary objective is to facilitate the discussion of proper compensation and royalties for the late music sensation, Mohbad.

Mohbad, a former signee under Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away at the young age of 27 on September 12, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The House’s intervention in this matter is the result of a motion introduced by Rep. Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos), who advocated for a review of laws pertaining to the entertainment industry and copyright. Rep. Benson expressed concern over the contracts and agreements that often constrain artists.

During the plenary session held on September 26, lawmakers voiced their strong commitment to ensuring that Mohbad receives proper compensation and royalties for his musical creations. They also pledged to oversee the ongoing investigation into his untimely demise and the royalties due to him.

In an official letter dated October 26, signed by the committee’s clerk, Yusuf Ibrahim, the House formally summoned both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager.

This summons is intended to elicit insights into the situation, which will assist the committee in determining potential legislative actions. The letter was conveyed through the President of the Performing Musicians Associations of Nigeria.
