NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Honorable Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives and lawmaker for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has urged President Bola Tinubu Federal Government to create a new state named Apa and establish additional local government areas within Benue State’s Zone C.
Ahead of the Constitutional Review Public Hearing for North Central B, Agbese emphasized that forming Apa State and new LGAs would bring governance closer to the people, enhance public service delivery, unlock economic opportunities, and promote transparency.
He proposed carving out Avovo, Ari, and Ufia from Ado; Okam and Owukpa from Ogbadibo; and Edumoga Ehaje and Edumoga Itso from Okpokwu as new LGAs to support this restructuring.
Agbese highlighted that increased local government accessibility would foster stronger connections between citizens and their leaders, ensuring faster and more effective responses to community needs.
Describing Apa State as a potential catalyst for development, he stressed the area’s abundant human and natural resources and argued that statehood would address marginalization by granting autonomy and enabling resource control.
While acknowledging potential challenges in creating new states and LGAs, Agbese expressed optimism that these hurdles can be overcome with popular support.
He called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents to back the initiative and actively participate in the constitutional review process to help shape a prosperous future for the region.
