President Tinubu has emerged as ECOWAS Chairman.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the new chairman of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS).

This was made known by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement via his official Twitter handle on Sunday.

Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau stepped down as ECOWAS chairman on July 4, 2022, at the 61st summit in Accra.

Tinubu has now replaced him.

Tinubu is attending the 63rd Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government holding in Guinea Bissau today, Sunday, 9 July.

Onanuga’s tweet reads: “Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will become the new ECOWAS chairman today, succeeding President Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau, who became chairman 4 July 2022, at the 61st summit in Accra.

“Tinubu’s leadership will be announced in Bissau today at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”

The Nigerian president left the country on Saturday for the meeting.
