Popular President Tinubu Minister from South East has resigned.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has resigned from her position as Minister of State for Labour and Employment in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former minister announced her resignation on Friday in a letter shared on her social media platforms, becoming the third cabinet member to step down following the president’s directive that political appointees planning to contest the 2027 elections must resign from their positions.

President Tinubu had earlier set March 31, 2026, as the deadline for affected appointees to vacate their offices.

In her resignation message, Onyejeocha expressed appreciation to the president for the opportunity to serve in his administration.

“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote.

She thanked the president, members of the Federal Executive Council, and Nigerians for their support during her time in office, describing the period as a significant chapter in her public service career.

According to her, the decision marks the beginning of a new phase in her political journey, although she did not disclose the elective position she intends to contest in 2027.

Onyejeocha also commended staff of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment Nigeria for their dedication and professionalism, noting their contributions to strengthening workers’ rights, improving workplace safety, and expanding employment opportunities across Nigeria.

The former lawmaker represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State at the House of Representatives Nigeria from 2007 to 2023 before joining the federal cabinet.

Her resignation follows similar moves by the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, who stepped down to pursue the governorship of Gombe State, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who also resigned to join the governorship race in Bauchi State.
