Police have obeyed a court order restraining them from participating in the Rivers LG Poll.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Rivers State Police Command has announced its withdrawal from participating in the upcoming local government election on October 5, 2024.

This is in total adherence to a Federal High Court ruling.

The court’s decision, issued on September 30, 2024, barred the police and other security agencies from providing security for the elections.

This development followed protests by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, who urged the police and the Department of State Services to respect the court order.

Despite the ruling, the police revealed their commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that they would not tolerate any disruptions.

They also advised all stakeholders to seek legal solutions if dissatisfied with the situation.

The command called for peace and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement during the electoral period.
