PENGASSAN has shut down Dangote Refinery over mass sack of workers.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Sunday announced that it has successfully shut down operations at the Dangote Refinery as part of its ongoing industrial action against the mass dismissal of workers.

In an update released to journalists, the union stated that the refinery plant has been completely shut down, while operations at the fertiliser plant’s train two have also ceased, with train one running at only 60 percent capacity. According to PENGASSAN, the diesel plant remains in operation for now.

The shutdown, the union noted, has disrupted crude and gas supply to the $20 billion facility.

Dangote Refinery, however, is yet to officially confirm the development. On Saturday, the company described PENGASSAN’s directive as “economic sabotage,” accusing the union of undermining Nigeria’s energy stability.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has urged both parties to embrace dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

The crisis erupted after Dangote Refinery terminated the contracts of more than 800 Nigerian workers who joined PENGASSAN, a move the union condemned as unlawful victimisation.
