BREAKING: PDP Founding Member Adamu Waziri Resigns, Joins ADC in Pursuit of National Interest

the development is seen as a major blow to the PDP, especially in Yobe State, as Waziri's exit could influence a wave of defections to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PDP Founding Member Adamu Waziri has resigned and joined ADC in pursuit of national interest.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Adamu Waziri, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, has officially resigned from the party, citing the need to restore democratic values and act in the national interest.

This Nigeria news platform understands that Waziri announced his defection on Monday at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, where he formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” Waziri declared, adding that the move was both difficult and necessary.

He emphasized that the PDP had drifted from its founding ideals, stating that the party no longer represents a credible opposition.

Waziri, a key architect in the formation of the PDP in 1998, criticized the current leadership and urged his political loyalists whom he referred to as “my boys” to join him in building a new political movement under the ADC to reinvigorate Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

“We must build a movement that restores democratic values and delivers good governance. It’s time to try something different for the sake of the country,” he said.

In a surprising turn, the PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Muhammad Bomai, also resigned from the party shortly after receiving Waziri’s returned membership card.

“Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai remarked, adding that his departure marks a significant loss for the party.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the development is seen as a major blow to the PDP, especially in Yobe State, as Waziri’s exit could influence a wave of defections to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
