Palestine, Jordan and Egypt have rejected Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazans.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Palestinian, Jordanian, and Egyptian leaders have strongly rejected a proposal by US President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, following his recent remarks suggesting Jordan and Egypt take in Gazans.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas condemned “any projects” aimed at displacing Palestinians from the enclave, stating that Palestinians “will not abandon their land and holy sites.”

Abbas warned against repeating the mass displacements of 1948 and 1967, which he described as historical catastrophes.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reinforced the country’s stance, declaring that “Jordan is for Jordanians and Palestine is for Palestinians.”

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also rejected the idea, stating that Cairo supports the Palestinian people’s right to remain in their homeland and opposes any attempt to force their relocation.

Trump, speaking on Saturday, said he had discussed the idea with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and planned to raise it with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi.

He described Gaza as a “demolition site” and suggested relocating its population either “temporarily or long-term.”

Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, also vowed to resist any forced displacement.

Hamas official Bassem Naim said Palestinians have historically “foiled such projects” and would do so again.

The US proposal comes amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, following 15 months of war triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The conflict has left Gaza’s infrastructure in ruins, with the UN estimating that nearly 70 percent of buildings in the enclave have been damaged or destroyed.

Despite international pushback, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich welcomed Trump’s idea, calling it a “great idea” that could offer Gazans “a better life”.

The situation remains tense, with Israel maintaining restrictions on movement in Gaza and conditioning the return of displaced Palestinians to northern areas on the release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.
