Nnamdi Kanu has slammed Reno Omokri with ₦60 billion lawsuit over alleged defamation.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a ₦60 billion lawsuit against Reno Omokri, a prominent supporter of President Bola Tinubu and former presidential aide, over what his legal team described as “highly defamatory and prejudicial publications.”

Kanu, through his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, initiated the suit at the Enugu High Court, demanding ₦50 billion in general damages and an additional ₦10 billion in aggravated damages from Omokri.

The legal action also seeks public apologies and retractions across national newspapers and social media platforms.

According to the writ of summons, Kanu is seeking:

  • ₦50 billion in general damages for defamation, emotional distress, and damage to his reputation.

  • ₦10 billion in aggravated damages for what is described as the “malicious and reckless publication of false statements.”

  • A court order compelling Omokri to publicly retract the statements in two national newspapers and on his official Twitter/X account.

  • A public apology issued via the same platforms.

  • A perpetual injunction restraining Omokri from further defamatory statements without legal justification.

  • Legal costs and 10% interest per annum on the monetary award from the date of judgment until full payment.

Confirming the development on his verified X handle, Ejimakor wrote:

“Yesterday, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commenced a muscular legal action against RENO OMOKRI (@renoomokri), seeking a retraction, apology & damages for Omokri’s highly defamatory & prejudicial publications against Mazi Kanu, IPOB & #Ndigbo. Others like Omokri should take note & be guided.”

NewsOnline Nigeriareports that the legal face-off marks a new dimension in the ongoing controversies surrounding IPOB and its detained leader, who remains in DSS custody amid ongoing legal battles with the Nigerian government.
