Nigerian Nurses have suspended nationwide strike after agreement with FG.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its nationwide strike which began on July 29, 2025, following a breakthrough in negotiations with the Federal Government.

Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, announced the suspension while addressing journalists on Friday after a closed-door meeting with leaders of the union in Abuja.

According to Pate, the strike was called off after “constructive deliberations” led to agreements on key demands raised by the association. However, the minister did not disclose the full details of the agreement.

Leaders of the nursing union declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting.

The nurses had embarked on the industrial action in protest against the Federal Government’s alleged failure to respond meaningfully to their 15-day ultimatum, which expired on July 28. The warning strike, which affected public health institutions nationwide, was initially expected to run until August 5.

With the suspension now in effect, health services are expected to gradually resume across affected facilities.
