BREAKING: Liz Truss, Theresa May Congratulate Rishi Sunak

You have my full support.

Following Rishi Sunak election as the Leader of the Conservative Party, which qualifies him to lead the United Kingdom as Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, Liz Truss and Theresa May have extended congratulatory messages to the incoming Britain prime minister.

 

Newsonline reports that Rishi Sunak, the Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) defeated former prime minister, Boris Johnson, who was supported by over 60 members of parliament.

 

In a congratulatory message, Liz Truss who resigned at a week’s interval citing an inability to deliver on the mandate upon which she was elected, congratulated the Indian-British parliamentarian.

 

Liz who was Britain’s Prime Minister for 44 days tweeted, “Congratulations @RishiSunak
on being appointed as Leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister.”

 

She added, “You have my full support.”

Also, former prime minister, member of parliament for Maidenhead, Theresa May, tweeted, “Congratulations @RishiSunak on becoming Leader of the Conservative Party.”

 

“Rishi will provide the calm, competent, pragmatic leadership our country needs at this deeply challenging time. He has my full support,” She added.

 

May had on October 20, said, “The Prime Minister is right to provide a roadmap for an orderly transition,” referring to Liz Truss’s earlier announcement that within one week the parliament members of the Conservative Party will elect a new member.

 

May added, “MPs must now be prepared to compromise. It is our duty to provide sensible, competent government at this critical moment for our country.”

 

On October 24, Sunak on his Twitter handle said, “Boris Johnson delivered Brexit and the great vaccine roll-out.

 

“He led our country through some of the toughest challenges we have ever faced, and then took on Putin and his barbaric war in Ukraine.

 

“We will always be grateful to him for that. Although he has decided not to run for PM again, I truly hope he continues to contribute to public life at home and abroad.”

 

Sunak’s tweet was greeted with applause by James Duddridge, MP Conservative, MP for Rochford and Southend East, saying, “We must unite the parliamentary party and get the economy back on track. Rishi is best placed to do this.”
