BREAKING: INEC officials held hostage in Bayelsa State

INEC warned that the development is detrimental to credible elections, calling on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.

INEC officials are held hostage in Bayelsa State, the electoral  body has cried out to security operatives.

 

Newsonline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday said it is closely monitoring the situation in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, where its officials are allegedly held hostage.

 

The Commission’s statement was contained in a post on its social media platform X on Sunday.

 

The development followed the conduct of the gubernatorial election in the state.

INEC warned that the development is detrimental to credible elections, calling on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.

The statement read: “The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area.

 

“The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.

 

“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release.”
