Former President Buhari has denied an alleged rift with Tinubu and plot to betray APC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party that propelled him to power after three failed attempts at the presidency.

This Nigeria news platform understands that Buhari made this known through his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, during an interview on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes programme. He firmly dismissed speculations of a rift between him and his successor, President Bola Tinubu.

Shehu noted that suggestions of a strained relationship between the two leaders are unfounded and based purely on public speculation. “People are entitled to hold their opinions, but in a formal and official sense, there’s no basis to speak of distrust or a façade between the Buhari administration and the Tinubu administration,” he stated.

Speaking further, Shehu affirmed Buhari’s deep gratitude to the APC, saying the former president has remained loyal to the party that finally gave him the opportunity to lead Nigeria after three unsuccessful presidential runs.

“For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s essentially an APC member. He does not forget the fact that he ran one, two, three times and failed to get the presidency until the APC was formed. The party gave him two terms in office, and for that, he has remained grateful. He always says, ‘I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office,’” Shehu said.

On internal party dynamics, Shehu maintained that Buhari and his allies are not unsettled by the public narratives suggesting divisions within the APC. He emphasized that those who witnessed the sacrifices that led to the party’s formation in 2014 are unlikely to be the ones working against it now.

“It took a lot of doing, energy, and sacrifice for the APC to be established. Desperate opposition elements came together, failed multiple times, but succeeded when they merged in 2014. Those who witnessed how much sweat it took to build this coalition are not likely to fracture it,” he added.
