FG has come under fire and asked to publish the names of Nigerians who got ₦330 billion cash transfer.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded that the Federal Government release the full list of Nigerians who benefited from the reported ₦330 billion disbursed under the National Cash Transfer Programme.

The call comes amid government claims that millions of citizens have been lifted out of poverty through social safety net schemes coordinated by the National Social Safety-net Coordinating Office (NASSCO).

Speaking in Abuja, NLC Acting General Secretary, Comrade Benson Upah, faulted the lack of transparency surrounding the initiative, insisting that public declarations must be backed with verifiable evidence.

“They should let them line up. In advanced economies, if you say you have created social jobs, you show the jobs. You don’t just go to the media and make claims. We want to see the beneficiaries,” Upah said.

He accused government agencies of engaging in “banditry with statistics” by rolling out poverty-alleviation figures without proof.

Upah stressed that Nigerians are enlightened and should not be taken for granted.

“When you say you have lifted millions of people, where are they? Where are the people you have given so much to? They should publish the recipients. The Nigerian audience is not a stupid audience; it is highly enlightened,” he added.

The labour leader maintained that publishing the names of recipients would help restore public confidence in the government’s anti-poverty drive.

He further argued that many Nigerians still doubt the programme’s impact, noting that the scheme has done little to cushion the harsh effects of inflation and the rising cost of living.
