FG has named Federal Hospitals where dialysis costs N12,000.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has released the list of Federal Tertiary Health Institutions where kidney patients can now access dialysis at a subsidized rate of N12,000 per session, down from the previous cost of N50,000.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare dismissed reports claiming that patients in the Northwest were excluded from the subsidy programme, describing the allegation as “incorrect.”

According to the Ministry, the scheme is a major intervention under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at easing the financial burden of vulnerable Nigerians battling kidney-related diseases.

The pilot phase is currently operational in 11 Federal Tertiary Health Institutions across the country:

  1. Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital

  2. University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital

  3. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi

  4. University of Jos Teaching Hospital

  5. National Hospital, Abuja

  6. Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta

  7. University College Hospital, Ibadan

  8. University of Benin Teaching Hospital

  9. Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa

  10. Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri

  11. Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki

Expansion Plan

The Ministry clarified that the Northwest region is not excluded, stressing that the pilot programme will soon be expanded to more Federal hospitals across all geo-political zones.

“This pilot phase will be expanded to cover more Federal hospitals across the country in due course, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing life-saving dialysis services,” the statement read.

Recall that President Tinubu had on March 7, 2025, approved the subsidy programme, which was first rolled out at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in January 2025. Since then, over 897 patients have benefited from the intervention.

The move comes amid rising cases of kidney failure in Nigeria, where thousands of patients struggle to afford consistent treatment. In February, the Yobe State Government deployed 50 health experts to investigate a surge in kidney-related ailments in the state.

Health experts say the subsidy is a lifeline for many Nigerians, offering hope to patients who would otherwise be unable to afford life-saving dialysis treatment.
