#FearlessInOctober Protest has kicked off in Lagos with fresh demands.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the #FearlessInOctober protest kicked off in Lagos State on Tuesday morning, with protesters asking the government to review its policies amid ongoing economic hardship.

Tuesday, October 1, is Nigeria’s Independence Day and it’s exactly 64 years since the country gained independence from British colonial rule. The protesters who came out in large numbers say said that October 1 is ‘National Survival Day’ and not ‘Independence Day’.

While monitoring the protest at Ikeja, FIJ saw protesters holding placards with inscriptions such as, ‘Reduce Petrol Price to N197 Per Litre; End Scarcity’, ‘End All Attacks On Democratic Rights’, ‘Free Adaramola Michael Lenin and Others Now’ and ‘Reverse Electricity Tariff Hike’.

In a video recorded by FIJ’s reporter, the protesters can also be heard singing, ‘Nobody can say no’ and ‘Eh eh eh, yawa go dey‘.

The #EndBadGovernance Movement Lagos State also issued a pamphlet at the protest ground, containing 10 cardinal demands.

Some of their demands include a reversal of the hike in fuel prices and electricity tariffs, a reduction in the prices of food, an end to insecurity, banditry, terrorism and violent crimes, the release of the #EndSARS and #EndBadGovernance protesters, journalists, whistleblowers and other victims of state-sanctioned repression.

They also want the government to implement the N70,000 new national minimum wage at all levels, reduce the cost of governance, provide free and compulsory education at primary and secondary school levels, prosecute corrupt public officeholders, create more decent jobs for all and initiate genuine electoral reform.
