Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship Semis

Egypt defeated Nigeria in the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship Semis.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigeria was defeated by defending champion Egypt 32-18 in the semi final of the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship ongoing in Monastir, Tunisia on Friday.

This Nigeria News platform understands that the national under 18 women handball team couldn’t contain the firepower of Egypt despite a fine start and lost the first half 18-7.

The second half was pretty much same as the defending champion were too good for Nigeria and it ended 32-18.

Nigeria will play Angola, who shockingly lost to Guinea 25-21 in the other semi final match, in the third place match while Egypt will play Guinea in the final.

The final and the third place match will be played on Saturday with Nigeria vs Angola playing at 4pm while the final match between Egypt and Guinea will be played at 6:30pm.

Shittu Agboola, head coach of Nigeria’s U-18 women’s handball team, was bullish about his team’s chances of getting past the north African foes.

Nigeria defeated Morocco 28-14 in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Wednesday to set up the showdown against the Egyptians, who also defeated Algeria 30-18 in the other last eight clash.

The victories on Wednesday mean both countries have qualified for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship in China.

It is the first time that Nigeria will qualify for the global competition
