NewsOnline reports that SERAP said the attack on the LP candidate, Peter Obi, after he had had a successful rally in Buhari’s home state, Katsina must be promptly investigated and perpetrators made to face the law.
LP presidential campaign train on Monday was attacked after the party and supporters had concluded the presidential rally. Peter Obi’s security details and car were also attacked.
SERAP in a statement called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order investigation into the attack to ensure the attackers are apprehended.
“The Buhari administration must promptly investigate the reported attack on the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, after a rally in Katsina on Monday. We’ll take legal action if the perpetrators are not immediately arrested and prosecuted,” SERAP said.
Meanwhile, the economic rights and accountability non-profit organization has also called the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso to immediately declare their assests public for Nigerians before the February 25 presidential election.
SERAP also demanded that the leading presidential candidates publicly reject vote buying ahead of the elections.
“We’re again calling on Atiku, Obi, Tinubu and Kwankwaso to widely publish their assets to show Nigerians that it will be no business as usual, and to publicly reject vote buying ahead of the elections,” SERAP added.
