Atiku and  Peter Obi of the opposition parties in Nigeria failed to recognize Tinubu as President after he was sworn in yesterday.

NewsOnline had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu took his oath of office as the 16th president of Nigeria on Monday.

This online newspaper understands that Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima’s swearing-in took place at Eagles Square in Abuja.

Following the event, a lot of Nigerians and foreigners have been congratulating Tinubu for achieving his lifelong dream of becoming president.

However, Newsnline Nigeria observed that the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his counterpart from Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, have not congratulated Tinubu.

Perusing their social media pages, our correspondent noticed that no message congratulating Tinubu was posted almost 24 hours after the event.

Tinubu had defeated Atiku and Obi in a keenly contested presidential election in February.

However, Atiku and Obi are in court contesting the outcome of the election.

Both candidates are claiming they won the election.

Meanwhile, Obi had said he won’t attend the inauguration because he was not invited.

A social media user, @delanoi wrote: “This is bad for Nigeria’s democracy. Obi and Atiku should have congratulated Tinubu over his swearing-in. It does not stop the tribunal.”

@jimmajg: “I think Atiku and Obi should have congratulated Tinubu but still push for their mandate in the tribunal.”
