NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigerian media personality Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo, popularly known as Asherkine, has opened up about the health challenges that forced him to stop creating binge-eating content.
In a candid post shared on (formerly Twitter), Asherkine admitted that his binge-eating videos gradually turned him into a glutton, saying he lost all sense of moderation and would only stop eating when he began to feel severe abdominal discomfort.
The popular content creator, who is also known for his frequent acts of kindness to Nigerians in need, revealed that the lifestyle began taking a serious toll on his health — leading to heart palpitations, weight gain, irregular sleep, high blood pressure, and chronic fatigue.
He wrote,
“I never really explained why I stopped making those food videos. I loved finishing up to five meals in one sitting until my body said ‘enough.’ I completely lost control — even when I wasn’t filming, I’d eat nonstop until it hurt. Gluttony crept in slowly, and it was scary. Apart from the physical symptoms, the mental battle to overcome gluttony was the toughest part.”
Asherkine went on to stress the importance of moderation and awareness of eating disorders, especially Compulsive Eating Disorder (CED), which he says is often overlooked.
“Gluttony is so underrated but so powerful. Two years later, I’m still learning to control my cravings. If you struggle with compulsive eating, I see you. Pay attention to your body. I’ll still make food content, but never in that volume again,” he added.
