NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has released the final results of the local government elections held on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Announcing the outcome on Sunday, RSIEC Chairman, Michael Ekpai Odey, confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won chairmanship seats in 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in three LGAs.

Meanwhile, political tensions deepened as suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his loyalists, including Chief of Staff Edison Ehie and Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo, were absent from the polls.

Also missing were the 23 sacked former local government chairmen earlier removed by the Supreme Court.

A close ally of the governor told reporters that the boycott was deliberate, alleging that “we knew the winners before the election started.”

The source further disclosed that Governor Fubara is currently outside the country and expected back in early September, hinting that the outcome of the polls was linked to the peace agreement brokered between Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike, under the supervision of President Bola Tinubu.
