APC has fixed May 2026 Primaries and pegged Presidential Form at N100m ahead of 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its presidential and governorship primary elections for May 16 and May 23, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed that the timetable which was signed by National Organising Secretary Sulaiman Argungu pegs the cost of expression of interest and nomination forms for presidential aspirants at ₦100 million. Governorship aspirants will pay ₦50 million, Senate aspirants ₦20 million, and House of Representatives aspirants ₦10 million.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed January 16, 2027, for Presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls will hold on February 6, 2027. The commission stated that party primaries will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, with campaigns commencing in August and September respectively.

According to the APC timetable, the sale of forms will take place between April 25 and May 2 at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, with May 4 set as the deadline for submission. Screening of presidential aspirants is scheduled for May 9, while other categories will be screened between May 6 and May 8, alongside additional screening dates on May 12 and May 13.

Primary elections for legislative positions are slated for May 18 (House of Representatives), May 20 (Senate), and May 21 (State Houses of Assembly). State Assembly aspirants will pay ₦6 million for their forms.

The party also announced concessions for female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities, who are required to pay only for expression of interest forms and 50 percent of nomination fees.

Morka reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to transparent and credible primaries, stating that the process would strengthen internal democracy and consolidate the party’s ideals.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also moved forward with its 2027 preparations, as its National Executive Committee adopted a timetable for primaries despite lingering internal divisions.

The crisis within the PDP has seen factions emerge, including one linked to Nyesom Wike and another associated with Tanimu Turaki, with several court cases still pending over party control.

At its 108th NEC meeting in Abuja, the party declared that it had overcome its internal challenges, describing itself as “strong, united and formidable.” The communiqué, signed by spokesperson Haruna Mohammed Jungudo, expressed confidence in the National Working Committee led by Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Wike, speaking at the meeting, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and urged reconciliation among members, while calling for greater transparency to rebuild trust within the party.

However, dissenting voices persist. The faction aligned with Turaki, through its publicity secretary Ini Ememobong, dismissed the NEC meeting as illegitimate, describing participants as “APC apologists.”

In a related development, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) revealed plans to adopt a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said consensus remains the preferred option due to cost considerations, though provisions for direct primaries still exist.

He added that the party is focused on building internal agreement among stakeholders as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

The latest moves by the APC, PDP, and ADC highlight intensifying political activity and strategic positioning across Nigeria’s major parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
