PDP zoning has cleared the path for Peter Obi’s 2027 Presidential Ambition.

NewsOnline Nigeria reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a move that significantly brightens the prospects of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who has long been under pressure from his supporters to contest the election.

Obi, who has previously maintained strong ties with the Labour Party and more recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has yet to declare his platform for 2027. However, the PDP’s zoning decision makes the main opposition party a more attractive option, especially for his nationwide support base.

Party insiders say Obi’s popularity, both online and offline makes him a formidable contender if he secures the PDP ticket. His supporters argue that the Labour Party remains too fragmented, while the ADC’s openness to northern aspirants risks playing into the hands of perennial presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar.

With the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) confirming the South for 2027, Obi is now being positioned by loyalists as the candidate best placed to unify the region and galvanize youth-driven support across the country.

The party’s decision, analysts note, sets the stage for an intense build-up to 2027, with Obi emerging as a top favourite within the reenergized PDP fold.
