President Tinubu has reduced kidney dialysis cost from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 nationwide.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved a drastic reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis sessions in federal hospitals, cutting the price from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Information, Daniel Bwala, announced the development on Monday via his X handle, describing it as a major relief for thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related diseases.

“With this intervention, dialysis sessions that previously cost ₦50,000 will now cost only ₦12,000,” Bwala stated, adding that the subsidy is already in effect across major federal hospitals in the six geopolitical zones.

The hospitals currently implementing the new dialysis rate include:

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja

  • University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri

  • University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta

  • Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos

  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare

  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin

  • University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar

Bwala revealed that more federal hospitals will be included before the end of the year to expand nationwide access to affordable kidney care.

He also recalled President Tinubu’s recent approval of free caesarean sections (C-sections) for pregnant women in federal hospitals, describing it as another bold step to strengthen maternal healthcare and reduce preventable deaths.

“These measures demonstrate the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring that no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost,” he added.
