Babangida has rejected Tinubu’s Appointment as Chairman of Bank of Agriculture.

NewsOnline Nigeriareports that Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Babangida, has turned down his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a letter dated July 21, 2025, and addressed to President Tinubu, Babangida expressed deep gratitude for the nomination, calling it “a true privilege to be thought worthy of such a strategic role in advancing the nation’s agricultural and economic development.”

However, he firmly declined the offer after what he described as “careful reflection and consultation.”

“This decision was not made lightly. It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands,” the letter reads.

Despite stepping back from the role, Babangida reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s development and pledged to support the current administration in other capacities aligned with his expertise.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the rejection comes amid intense political scrutiny over recent federal appointments and is already generating buzz, with media mogul Dele Momodu describing Babangida’s decision as “rejecting a Greek gift.”
