Adamu Garba has claimed that Northern Political Elites are reportedly dumping the ruling APC and joining ADC in droves.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former lawmaker and APC chieftain, Adamu Garba, has raised serious concern over the growing wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly in Northern Nigeria.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Garba described the trend as “alarming” and urged loyal APC members to reaffirm their commitment to the ruling party.

“The rate at which members of PDP and APC are resigning to join the ADC in the North is alarming,” Garba wrote. “I think it is high time we, the members of APC, start writing our affirmation letters confirming our unwavering commitment to the membership of our party.”

The concern comes amid the formal adoption of the ADC by a powerful coalition of opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, and others. The coalition has vowed to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Despite the growing momentum, the presidency has downplayed the threat. Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala stated that the ADC coalition lacks credible alternative policies to challenge the APC’s leadership.

Earlier this week, the ADC accused the Tinubu administration of plotting to destabilise the opposition movement. But in response, the APC declared that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031” and maintained that the North remains firmly behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Atiku Abubakar, speaking on Wednesday, claimed the government’s actions reflect fear and desperation ahead of the 2027 election.
