Real Madrid has honored Petrovic, recognizing his impactful legacy with a special tribute.
Newsonline Nigeria reports that on Thursday, Real Madrid honored its iconic figure, Dražen Petrović, who tragically passed away in 1993. The tribute was held at the Zagreb Arena, where a special basketball game featured Croatia’s national team, with Hezonja, facing off against a team of European players that included Tavares and Musa.
The event was marked by the presence of notable figures, including Alberto Herreros, technical director of Real Madrid’s basketball division, and former player Felipe Reyes. Their attendance highlighted the profound impact Petrović had on the club and the basketball community.
During the game, a special moment occurred when Real Madrid paid tribute to Dražen Petrović during a time-out in the second quarter. Alberto Herreros and Felipe Reyes took to the center of the court to present a commemorative plaque and a team jersey, bearing the name and number 5 that Petrović wore, to his brother, Asa Petrovic.
Petrović, who played for Real Madrid during the 1988/89 season, left a lasting legacy at the club.
