Hunger Protest has broken out in Abuja and Niger States.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that residents of Niger State have begun to express their frustrations over rising costs of living and inflation in Nigeria.

On Monday morning, some of them took to the streets with placards in protest.

With three days left until a planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, the action has come earlier than anticipated.

NewsOnline Nigeria learned that protesters marched from Suleja LGA in Niger and made their way to Abuja through the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

On their placards were inscriptions which read: ‘Hardship is unbearable’, ‘Enough is enough’, and ‘Fuel subsidies must be back’.

Before now, security agencies and officials of various tiers of government had warned and appealed to intending protesters to shelve their plans or risk facing repercussions.

The police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the military have issued statements cautioning planners against continuing with their intentions.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that in Lagos and Abuja, several anti-protest people went out on Sunday and Monday morning to ‘Say no to protest’ in their cities. But despite these efforts, some Nigerians appear intent on going ahead as planned.
