Police have displaced the hunters guarding Emir Sanusi II at Kano’s main palace.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the operatives of Kano State Police Command have taken over the security of the main palace of the Emir of Kano, displacing local hunters who had been guarding the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, since his return to the palace.

This Nigeria news platform recalls that the local hunters, popularly known as ‘Yan Tauri,’ were earlier deployed to the palace en masse last month following rumours that federal authorities were planning to forcefully return the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, to the main palace and sack Sanusi II.

However, on Sunday evening, a team of security agents cleared out the hunters and assumed control of the palace’s security.

Meanwhile, NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, remains under the protection of security agents at the Nasarawa mini palace. Despite an eviction notice issued by the Kano State government after a vague court ruling by Justice Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano last Thursday, both palaces have continued their traditional activities without interruption.

The spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Kiyawa, was yet to comment on what prompted the sudden change in security arrangements at the main palace where Emir Sanusi II is calling shots.

The ongoing standoff between the two gladiators has drawn significant attention to the Kano Emirate throne.
