There has been a major outburst among Nigerians since Bobrisky (man) was announced as the winner of the Best-Dressed Female in Lagos event.

NewsOnline Nigeria had earlier reported that Nollywood glittered on Sunday, March 25th, 2024, for the world premiere of “Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds.” The movie, produced by actress Eniola Ajao, brought a star-studded audience to Lagos’ Circle Mall, Lekki.

The premiere wasn’t just about the film; it was also a fashion affair. Bobrisky, a popular Nigerian transgender personality known for her comedic videos, stole the show with her red carpet-look.

This Nigeria news platform understands that Bobrisky wore a stunning black sequined gown with her hair styled in curls and bold black lipstick, Bobrisky won the award for “Best Dressed Woman” at the event. Big Brother Naija alum, Groovy was awarded “Best Dressed Man.”

Many top celebrities, including Toyin Abraham, Iyabo Ojo, Denrele Edun, Femi Adebayo, and many others, stormed the Circle Mall, Lekki, in Lagos State, in mysterious and show-stopping outfits for the event.

However, Bobrisky was adjudged the ‘Best-Dressed’ female at the movie premiere and received a cash prize of N1 million.

Meanwhile, NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Bobrisky’s win sparked interesting conversations, considering Nigeria’s social perceptions and legal laws regarding transgender identity and queer identity.

Bobrisky win has caused a steer as netizens believe it is an affront to the biological women who attended the movie premiere.

Reacting, in a video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, Dayo Amusa condemned the award given to Bobrisky, stating that it was disrespectful and mockery to women present at the event.

She said, “I was at a colleague of mine premiere yesterday, they said the best dressers are to be picked; one female and one male best dresser. Don’t get me wrong, the winner could be anyone but definitely not a crossdresser. I mean, what’s wrong with us? I don’t understand it.

“I cannot imagine the judges disrespecting every woman that was there. You had to pick a winner, a female best dressed and a male best dressed and you watered the efforts of all the women at the event by giving the best dressed female to a crossdresser. I don’t understand, what is wrong with us?

“If you feel you want to honour crossdressers, you should have created their own category instead of disrespecting women by giving a crossdresser the best dressed female award.”

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Singer Portable berated the judges for giving Bobrisky the award, stressing that it wasn’t fair to the women present at the event.

Portable noted that Bobrisky is transgender and shouldn’t be regarded as the same with women.

The ‘Best Dressed Female’ award presented to popular crossdresser, Bobrisky, recently at a movie premiere has continued to stir reactions.
DAILY POST reports that Bobrisky was adjudged the Best Dressed Female at movie premiere in Lagos over the weekend and received a cash prize of N1 million.

However, reacting in a video message shared via his Instagram account, Portable berated the judges for giving Bobrisky the award, stressing that it wasn’t fair to the women present at the event.

Portable noted that Bobrisky is a transgender and shouldn’t be regarded as the same with women.

He said, “I heard that Bobrisky won Best Dressed Female award at a movie premiere. Is he a woman? Isn’t he a transgender? He might have done BBL and breast surgery but that does not qualify him as woman.

“There were many beautiful women there but the judges gave a man a award meant for women. Bobrisky is a man.”

He also threatened to “beat” Bobrisky for “disgracing” men.

Meanwhile, Bobrisky has responded to Portable, threatening to “deal” with him if he doesn’t desist from dragging him.

On his Instagram story, Bobrisky wrote in Pidgin, “@portablebaeby ogun wan kpa ur mama? Wetin concern me with ur life? I resemble ur fellow people in d ghetto? Na God go punish you. If you try shit with me i will take you to where they will deal with u and you ur dead career will end finally.”

Netizens React

Also, a netizen identified as Bashirah Busola Giwa reacted: “Is Bob a woman how is he the best dressed female”.

Another user, Coach Feeyah, posted: “Female kwa! What are we promoting for crying out loud.”

Bilqees Hamza posted: “High time to stop this rubbish before it gets out of hand. TVC I’m highly disappointed”.

Atere Ademola posted: “Producer na hungry person so I believe na the money he pay as bribe be the cap board. Law de catch poor person steady. Get funds my people”.

Giwa Yusra Abidemi posted: “Encouraging nonsénse. This is dis@ppointing. But welcome to Naija where we celebrate who should be humiliated and humiliate who deserves celebration. Radarada!”

Unbothered by the controversy, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, has said he merited the ‘Best Dressed Female’ award he won at a recent event.

Bobrisky insisted that he won the award fairly.

He boasted that he beat those who claimed to be “real women” to the award.

He wrote, “I love my sisterhood no cap! But e get some haters among them. Una dey claim real women blabla but I won hands down. Who come be the real woman now? Don’t play!”
